With 32 years in the Baton Rouge Fire Department, including eight years in senior administrative leadership, Chad Major has worked at every level of the job. He also served as Interim Fire Chief during a critical transition, bringing stability, operational understanding, and real experience in budgets, civil service, and department leadership.
Since 2012, he has led the Professional Fire Fighters Association of Louisiana, representing roughly 4,000 firefighters and EMTs. That work has included pushing for firefighter health protections, supporting mental health and PTSI recognition, defending retirement interests, and helping move Louisiana toward proactive cancer screening through Act 554.
As chairman and commissioner on the Louisiana Fire and Emergency Training Commission, he helped guide the strategic direction of statewide fire training. His work included pushing for better budget transparency, shifting specialized training toward a pay-as-you-go model, and tying discounted training rates to higher professional standards across the state.
